You Won’t Be Disappointed!

We love this brewer. The best benefit is a fresh, just-brewed cup of coffee every time. The k-cups are more expensive than buying bulk coffee but we were throwing away partially brewed pots of coffee every day with our old brewer. Plus, the savings in time not having to clean the carafe and dump the filter of grounds and then cleaning that is well worth it. Also, you can purchase a reusable filter for it if you want to continue to use non-kcup coffee. Believe me, it is still WAY less expensive than what you pay in the popular coffee houses and the coffee is just as good, or better.

It won’t accommodate a tall cup but it is simple to brew into a glass measuring cup and then pour that into your tall cup or travel mug.

Helpful tip: We did have a clogging problem at first. The manual doesn’t tell you that there is a “top needle” that can get clogged. Just remove the gasket and take a straightened paper clip to unclog it. If you use your own coffee, use a coarser grind to avoid that problem. HOWEVER, we were leaving the k-cup closed up in there and the grounds were getting cold and stayed stuck in the needle. We found that if you remove the k-cup right after brewing, it doesn’t get clogged EVER. Have not had it happen since we discovered that. By the way, Keurig’s customer/technical service is absolutely top notch! They stand behind their product and more than make up for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

For those of you who are confused about the amount of water to pour in, we just take the cup we are brewing it in, fill it with water and pour it in. We never worry about seeing where the water level is.

Keurig B31 vs Bosch Tassimo T45

I recently purchased both the Keurig B31 and Bosch Tassimo T45 personal brewers. My initial search was for a personal brewer for my office since the coffee provided at work is terrible. This review is written from the angle that I needed a brewer for my office cubicle, however I will add some insight for those looking to purchase for home use. My 3 main factors were 1)Convenience/Ease of Use 2)Price & 3)Coffee Quality. I opted with the Keurig for work and the Tassimo for home.

CONVENIENCE/EASE OF USE:
The Keurig wins for this factor since it is MUCH quieter than the Tassimo. As stated before, I sit in a cubicle at work so I didn’t need a loud machine to disrupt my co-workers. We have `white noise’ in our office and you can hardly hear the B31 as it brews. The Tassimo at home is louder and would definitely disrupt my co-workers sitting next to me. However, it is not so loud that it would wake someone up who is sleeping in the house. There are some good videos on YouTube of sound tests of the B31 and T45. I found the videos made the B31 sound louder than it actually is, while the Tassimo’s are pretty accurate.

The Keurig brews a little faster than the Tassimo which gives it a little edge as well, but both are right around 2 minutes.

PRICE:
Since the coffee at work is free, price was a big factor for me as well. I didn’t need something that was going to greatly increase my weekly spending. The Keurig B31 ($99.99) is cheaper than the Tassimo ($169.99). However, Bosch currently has a $50 rebate on the T45. Couple that with a 20% of BBB coupon and you have greatly reduced the price of the Tassimo machine.
The k-cups are also cheaper than the t-discs. I found the k-cups to be around $0.50/cup. The t-discs will run you $0.60 – $0.80 for regular coffee and $1.25 for the cappuccinos and lattes. Depending on how much coffee you drink, this could get expensive.

Since I use the Keurig every day at work and the Tassimo only on the weekend, this made it the better choice for my desk.

COFFEE QUALITY:
The Tassimo wins this hands down. I found the Tassimo coffee (specifically Seattle’s Best and Gevalia) to be much better than the k-cups. The flavors out of the Tassimo seem richer and fuller and the aroma that comes from the machine when brewing is much stronger. The k-cups do produce a good cup of coffee, but I found the t-discs better. I have been able to get close to the flavor of the t-discs by trying different brands of k-cups, but haven’t found one that matched it in flavor exactly.

Conclusion:
I found the Keurig B31 to be the best option for my cubicle at work based on convenience and price. I would recommend the Tassimo for those who are using it at home. Or you could purchase both and enjoy the best of both worlds.

Great Little Brewer- but don’t use cold water!!

We received this brewer from our parents for Christmas, and I was immediately smitten. Easy to brew (easy to measure water, too, in my opinion). Coffee samples were a mixed bag- some too weak, some delicious, but that’s the beauty of the Keurig system, right? – variety of brews to try?

Imagine my disappointment, then, when after exactly 6 brewed cups, the brewer would not work. The little brew button would blink as normal, then shut off without brewing. TroubleShooting section of the instruction booklet instructs to immediately call Keurig if this were to happen. Keurig Customer Service was very helpful and sent out a new unit in a week. I took the new brewer out of the box, and guess what?

DOA. It wouldn’t even brew a single cup! I had read about heating element problems with the Keurig line in general, and was sure I was one of the unlucky customers to experience this problem. Keurig CS was even more helpful this time, and we received our third brewer a week later.

Plugged in the new brewer, put the water in, inserted K Cup, and… nothing.

Out of sheer boredom, frustration, insanity, etc. I kept trying to brew.
To my great surprise, after a half hour of attempts, the heater kicked in, and the brewer worked! What the… ??

Then, a light bulb switched on in my head. Could it be that the refrigerated filtered water I was using didn’t allow the brewer to achieve brewing temperature? Keurig Customer Service never mentioned that it would be an issue, and nowhere in the literature does it say to use room-temperature water. Nonetheless, I switched to filtered tap and/or room-temp bottled water, and the little Keurig has performed like a champ.

So to all of you out there considering this little gem of a brewer, don’t use refrigerated water, and you will love the Mini Plus!

(Maybe I should have reached this conclusion with common-sense reasoning, but alas, this was not the case…)

Now my favorite of the Kcup varieties

This is a wonderful cup of coffee to wake up to. Many of the Kcups are too strong for me and I have a tendency to shy away from them. I received a Donut Shop Coffee Kcup sample and thought that I might as well make it so that it wouldn’t go to waste. Was I surprised. It was full bodied and was not bitter at all. I would recommend this to anyone.

Great coffee! Buy it at Bed, Bath & Beyond

This coffee is wonderful — the Golden French Toast alone is worth what you pay for it. But speaking of paying for it, please do yourself a favor and go to Bed, Bath and Beyond and buy the 48-pack for [...], minus 20% with their coupon. Come on, Amazon — your price vs. [...]? Great Coffee, Terrible Price!

Found these at Bed, Bath and Beyond for [...] and went through them in less than 2 weeks. The flavors are amazing! I did notice that they were a weaker, milder coffee and this from someone who hates strong coffee.

Seriously disappointed that Amazon is charging $20 more for this item then BBB and Best Buy, but the coffee itself is great!

Weak coffee

I know flavored coffee is not intended to be blow your socks off dark roast, but all of the flavors in this variety pack are very weak, consider that if you like a full bodied cup, or taste.
The best of the bunch is probably the Egg Nog, which has a nice almost rum flavor, the Gingerbread is fairly bland, the French Toast is more like French Vanilla with a touch of cinnamon and the Holiday Blend is just plain and weak.
I got these locally for $25.99, and thought that was pricey for only 48 cups, I don’t mind having to pay for the different flavors for a change, but these are seriously overpriced here.

My favorite flavor so far…

I received a Keurig machine for my birthday last month. I have tried so many types of k-cups I’ve lost count! But, the Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice is one I’m sticking with. I wish it was offered year round, because when I run out; I am really going to miss it! It may not be an extra bold flavor, but it is full of flavor when used on the 6 ounce setting. I’ve been using two teaspoons of non-flavored liquid creamer and one teaspoon of sugar to a 6 ounce cup, and it tastes really good! It’s the closest thing to a pumpkin spice latte I can make in the comfort of my own home. As a person who is relatively new to Keurig, I have learned that it is best to use exact measurements with cream and sugar, so you can figure out exactly how you like it and stick with it, so you can have a perfect cup of coffee every time. I should also mention that I do not normally like flavored coffees, but I love this one!

These are my favorite K-cups by far. I stock up every fall so that they will last me the whole year. But, save your money and buy them at Bed Bath and Beyond. They’re $11.99 for 18 cups there, and you can use a 20 percent off coupon to make them even cheaper…

Product Description

Plain coffee is great, but every now and then I need a nut, vanilla, or chocolate – pure, heavenly chocolate with my coffee. If you agree, then this is for you. This is a variety of flavored coffee for brewers that use the Keurig K-Cup system. There will be 24 K-cups in total. This variety sampler includes only flavored caffeinated coffee. A minimum of 8 different flavors will be included. We select 20 or more flavors of k-cups (some from the list below, some not), mix them together and randomly pull 24 for the package and typically see between 8 and 16 different types in bags we sample. Due to the mixing method, the result is random and the count of each type is also random. You may get 2 of 12 different types, or 7 of 1 type and 1 of 17 others. We select different boxes and flavors every time we order to make sure the varieties stay unique and random — which is part of the fun. Coffee roasters are always discontinuing flavors and adding new ones which we try to get and add as soon as they are available to us, so the list below is not exact but we try to update when major changes occur. Not a nice assortment

I have wanted to try flavored coffee but didn’t want to take the chance of buying a whole box and not likely the flavor. This was a good solution. I read the few reviews and took chance. Well I’m a little dissapointed. Most of the box expires by December which isn’t to big of deal because I’ll have them gone by then, but the assortment sucked. At least a third of them were the same flavor from the same maker. When you add that to the number of “french vanilla” ones that I got it’s at least 2/3 of the box. I wanted an assortment, not mostly french vanilla made by a few different companies. I think I have 5 or 6 that weren’t french vanilla. Oh and top it off, those 5 or 6 are the only different brands too. The rest of the box is Van Houtte coffee.

Just thrown into a box, some were broken

I have been purchasing K-Kups for over a year now and most of the time I purchase them from on-line vendors. They are always packaged very carefully, in single layers, neatly lined up and protected by a layer of cardboard. This particular vendor delivered my order in a timely fashion, but neglected to package them with care. They just threw 24 K-cups into a box and closed it for shipping. 3 out of the 24 were damaged/punctured. Very disappointed, will go elsewhere from now on.

I love flavored K-Cups and was so excited to see a variety package offered on K-cups because I just couldnt decide between pumpkin spice, chocolate donut, cinnamon pecan, butter toffee and vanilla cupcake!!
So when the 24 count variety pack was offered I was excited to get a small sampling of everything.
It arrived today with only 23 cups, and like 3 or 4 of the same flavors, and not good ones!!
4 Blueberry mountains(yuck) 3 irish cream blah!
I guess I should have realized this could happen but still wish I had gotten at least 15 different flavors and ones I wanted try and that.
Buyer beware.

Cheap like me? Yeah, you’re gonna like this too…

Being frugal (all right, cheap) by nature, I held off on buying a single-serve coffeemaker until I could find one I liked that offered a reusable filter. When Keurig came out with the B-40 Elite, a handsome, reasonably priced unit, and announced that it would be releasing its “My K-Cup” reusable filter for separate sale early in 2006, I was primed. As soon as I saw this product on Keurig’s website, I was ready to buy my new coffeemaker from Amazon.com and the filter from Keurig’s web site. My only wish was that Amazon.com would stock the reusable filter so buyers could purchase the coffeemaker and filter in one fell swoop, and here my wish is about to come to pass!

I have had my Keurig B-40 Elite for about a month now, and I’ve had great success with it. Bear in mind that if you’re using the reusable filter, you must first remove the black plastic K-Cup holder from the unit’s filter assembly (instructions on how to do this are included with “My K-Cup”; the black piece in the coffeemaker’s filter basket doesn’t act like it’s supposed to come out, but it is, and it does).

Also, I’ve read elsewhere that some people don’t like having to remove the reusable filter and clean it out after every use. However, I’ve found it to be a relatively simple affair: the reusable filter doesn’t drip when you remove it, and takes about 30 seconds to rinse out after each use. You can use it again right away to brew successive cups.

One caveat is that the output splashes a bit when using the My K-Cup filter, so I always have a damp paper towel at the ready when I brew a cup. That having been said, I’m really happy to be using my own coffee and saving lots of money in the process. Those who are, like me, loathe to shell out 55 cents a cup for K-Cups will probably really like the new My K-Cup.

Here’s a tip for stronger coffee

After reading many reviews about the problems with the My K-Cup and experimenting on my own, I have found an easy solution to the problem of weak coffee using this filter. As others have noted, the water goes through the My K-Cup way too fast as compared to the K-Cups. My solution was to take apart a K-Cup and use the outer plastic shell with the My K-Cup filter. Here’s all you need to do:

Take a used K-Cup and cut the top foil off of a K-Cup. Cut the paper filter out of the K-Cup. It’s okay not to cut it all the way off of the rim of the K-Cup because you will need to cut the top of the K-Cup (where it gets wider at the top). You need to cut the top of the K-Cup off because you need to fit the K-Cup shell into the My K-Cup holder. Once you slide the bottom shell of the K-Cup into the holder, you can add your coffee into the My K-Cup (tapping or gently pressing the coffee so that it is not loose inside the filter). Then place the My K-Cup filter into the holder and cover as normal. When brewing, the K-Cup shell surrounds the My K-Cup filter and slows down the water by making it pass through the punctured hole that the prepackaged K-Cup normally uses.

The great thing about this is that you can re-use the K-Cup shell that you cut apart over and over so once you have cut one apart you don’t have to worry about it again- use the My K-Cup as you normally would.

I’m hoping Keurig will have figured this out in the near future and add a premade piece that is included the My K-Cup, but until then, I have found that this solves the problem of weak coffee.

Easy to Use and Environmentally Responsible!

Let me start out by saying that I love my Keurig brewer. It brews a great cup of coffee (GMCR Dark Magic is my fav) and the convenience can’t be beat. However, I’ve always felt a little guilty every time I throw out a used K-Cup. It seems like they’re not only completely UNrecycleable, but totally UNbiodegradeable as well.

Enter the My K-Cup reuseable filter. Yes, it takes a little practice to fill up the mesh filter with grounds without making a total mess, and sure it takes a few seconds of rinsing when finished. But the result is a great cup of coffee and no guilt trip about filling the landfill with punched out K-Cups. And if you’re feeling reckless, it’s an easy switch back to those good ol’ prefab cups.

I’d recommend this to anyone with a compatible brewer. It’s not that much more of a hassle to use, the results are excellent, and there’s no waste. Oh yeah, it’s also a whole lot cheaper to fill these with your favorite pre-ground GMCR blend (Dark Magic baby!) than to buy the equivalent number of cups.

The only negative that I’ve seen is a tendency for more “sludge” to get through to the bottom of your cup. Watch that last sip, it’s a doosy!

Seriously, I love my Keurig. I love the convenience and the coffees. But what I don’t love is buying $50 dollars worth of coffee every month. I tried the filter that Keurig gave me with my Platinum B70 model and it made my awesome Guatemalan Coffee I used to brew the “old fashion way” into a watered down mess no matter how fine I ground the bean or how much I reduced the cup size.

I was skeptical about buying another kcup filter when I saw this offered on Amazon, but the video add on the ekobrew website had me sold. I bought the ekobrew Cup before it was available for sale with high hopes, and it has totally lived up to my expectations! My freshly ground coffee tastes better than any Kcup I have ever had! I forgot how good some of the beans I bought were. No Joke. If you are like me and have a few roasts of beans you just love and don’t feel like breaking the bank trying every kcup under the sun to find blends that please you then get it. You won’t be sorry.

The only negative part is you have to rinse it out but that is no big deal. Just pop the top and tap it on the sink and the grinds come out then rinse. No scrubbing or anything. I may buy another to have one handy to fill while the other is brewing since I make about 3 Kcups worth of coffee in the morning to fill for two travel mugs for the wife and I. THANK YOU ekobrew!

Just got the Ekobrew today and tried it out. I have been a Solofill fan since they came out but the Ekobrew design seems to beat the Solofill. First off, the flat bottom makes it easy to fill. I usually run two cycles for a larger cup of coffee. With the Ekobrew the lid stays shut and doesn’t leak water at the top. I was surprised how easily the grounds came out and just a quick rinse and it was ready to go again. Seems to be the best choice around for avoiding the high cost of K cups.

Avoid Clogging Your Machine…Look At The K-Cups!

I read a number of these reviews. The horror stories about these machines working and then ceasing to work were more than enough for me to steer clear. When the office I work at bought one of these machines, I figured that this would be my chance to find out just how well this machine worked without having any personal finances in play. Let’s face it, these machines are an investment. This machine was so much fun to use, just about everyone in the office jumped on board and bought some version of the K-Cup system. I was more interested in this particular model. So, I watched and waited.

Pretty soon, just like other users, the office Cuisinart ran into problems. A K-Cup would be put in the machine, the Brew button would be pressed, the machine would make sounds as if it was trying to brew, some liquid may start dripping into the cup below, but then nothing. This same problem happened to one of the co-workers who had bought this Cuisinart model for their home. The manual was referred to, troubleshooting ensued, tinkering occurred, but nothing seemed to work. One of the home Cuisinarts ended up going back to the store to be exchanged. An inquisitive co-worker at the office, however, took a straightened paper clip and started poking around. After a number of “pokes” with the paper clip in the part of the machine that is sharp, but hollow that pokes into the K-Cup, the office Cuisinart was back in working order. The co-worker who had replaced their machine at home, again, ran into the same problem. The Cuisinart stopped working. Using a paper clip to clear the same part, the home machine was returned to working order.

*** I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU LOOK AT THE K-CUPS THEMSELVES ***

While this may not apply to everyone who is running into problems with this Cuisinart model, this may help some of you, thanks to that same paper clip wielding co-worker. And if anything, it may help if you end up purchasing this machine by avoiding one of the problems that may be plaguing others. In my case, the K-Cups come from a lower elevation than where I reside, so there is a LOT of pressure in the K-Cups. Prior to putting the K-Cup in the machine, we poke the cover of the K-Cup. It doesn’t really matter where. I favor right in the middle where the Cuisinart machine will eventually poke the K-Cup. Make sure to gently press the lid/foil of the K-Cup down to force out the excessive air. Then you use the machine just as you regularly would. Since coming across this realization and releasing the pressure in the K-Cups, the office Cuisinart machine and the various co-workers with their home Cuisinart machines have reported no more issues. Including myself. I bought one of these machines after running this field test of almost five months. I figure if I try and keep any K-Cups contents from being forced into the machine through the entry needle (the sharp hollow point) in the first place, hopefully, I won’t have clogging problems down the line. This may also keep random grounds from ending up in your cup. I’m not sure about the inner workings of this particular machine, so who knows how far interloping K-Cup contents can travel in this machine and what problems they or eventual build-up can actually lead to, but at least for me…so far, so good!

I’m not a coffee drinker at all. But this machine comes in very handy for all the coffee drinkers who visit. I don’t have to try to figure out how much to brew, remember who likes what, wait for the coffee to finish, or be stuck with a leftover pot of coffee. You select the size. There is a huge variety of flavors. It is quick. But, it is not cheap. That would be the detractor so far for the K-Cup system as a whole. Also, if you are a Hot Chocolate fan, you probably do not want to add more than 8 ounces of water. I would suspect that Hot Cider is the same. I’m not sure if this is a fad and will eventually go the way of the 8-Track tape, but at least for me…it works and works well for just what I need.

Great coffee maker!

This coffee maker makes a great cup of coffee! I have increased my coffee consumption beyond just initial wake up and breakfast. It was kinda hard to justify the price at first, but with family encouraging me, I purchased this model from Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% off coupon.

There was a small learning curve and adjustment to make, but it was worth it. I have many 14 and 16 oz mugs from around the world and have become used to drinking a couple of 14 oz cups each morning. However I quickly learned that even the 12 oz setting with the K-cup caused the coffee to be too weak for my taste. I settled on using the 8 oz and 10 oz settings, depending on the coffee used. The increase in flavor, taste and consistency over even the best of pot brewed coffee – more than made up for the decrease in amount.

The price of the K-cups are too expensive to continue using them at the rate of 6 to 10 a day, every day, and my personal favorite coffees are not available in K-cups anyway. A a result, I use the included “make your own” filter most of the time and make my favorite coffees. This setup works great and has very consistent flavor. I have ordered the Solo-cup and EZ cup and will try them when they arrive.

My wife noted that I don’t just stand at the coffeemaker waiting on the coffee anymore. It is fast and convenient and every cup is fresh and hot like that first cup from a brewer. I can’t go back to the old way. I am glad my family urged me to get it.

Bestest Ever!

I cannot believe how good this product is in combination with Keurig’s K-cup system. We’ve owned the Bosch Tassimo and loved that for the last year until we couldn’t get the descale light to go away, plus the selection was quite limited to Starbucks and Gevalia. Both good brews (not great), but in comparison to the variety of the K-cup system they look and taste paltry in comparison. Caribou Coffee is a mirror image (tastewise) of what you buy in stores and the Donut Shop blend from the Coffee People is incredible as well. For a bigger kick Emeril’s Bold and Easy is fantastic, or you can brew your own blend of whatever you like in the reusable cup which Cuisinart nailed. Coarse ground coffees fresh from Dunkin Donuts come out very weak and are not advisable, but their Turbo Hot blend sold in grocery stores brews FANTASTIC as it has a finer grind. I think you can re-grind coarse coffee in a burr grinder to get a deeper brew.

Again, if you love coffee and you love the idea of the single brew system then this Cuisinart is for you. It’s a solid machine that brews a very impressive cup of joe from a variety of vendors.
